Stratolaunch Roc: The Worlds Biggest Plane

The carbon-composite plane built by Stratolaunch Systems Corp, started by late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen took its first flight on Saturday. With the title of “worlds biggest plane”, the Roc has a wingspan the length of an American football field, 28 tires, and has six engines on a twin-fuselage.

Saturday’s test flight saw the plane reach an altitude of 17,000 feet and a maximum speed of 189 mph. The goal of the plane is to carry space vehicles weighing up to 500,000 pounds at an altitude of 35,000 feet so that they can boost themselves into orbit.
